NGOs receive aid for social activities

KAPIT: Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) here recently received a total of RM12,000 in government grants for social activities.

Hulu Rajang MP Datuk Billy Abit Joo presented the grants, which aim to promote social activities for the betterment of the community.

The recipients were Sarawak Federation of Women’s Institute (PPWS) Kapit Town (RM5,000), Kapit Chiang Chuan Association (RM4,000), and Seventh Division Lawn Tennis Association (RM3,0000).

Meanwhile, PPWS Kapit Town is currently holding its Nutrition and Health Awareness Programme at Long Urum, Belaga for the benefit of the Penan community.

Organising chairperson Ma Bee Kuan said the programme is in collaboration with the Health Department.

“The main component of the programme is a healthy lifestyle with general health screening, diet and food nutrition and proper cooking and planting of leafy vegetables.

“The Health Department Kapit provides the personnel to conduct the health screening, health talk, healthy setting and lifestyle, cooking demonstration, balanced diet and nutritious food,” she said.

PPWS has targeted 400 participants.

“Our concern is the children because we heard of malnutrition among the children.

“We also sent up some DVDs for educational purposes,” added Ma.
