KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court here yesterday ordered former Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil to reply to the defence filed by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin and another person regading her (Shahrizat’s) defamation suit against them.

Judicial Commissioner Vazeer Alam Mydin Meera gave Shahrizat until July 13 to do so with the same date set for case management.

Prior to this, Vazeer had set Aug 6 for the hearing.

On Jan 19, Shahrizat had filed a RM100 million defamation suit against Zuraida and PKR director of strategy Mohd Rafizi Ramli over statements made by the duo in connection with the National Feedlot Centre (NFC) project.

Shahrizat is seeking RM50 million in general damages and RM50 milion in exemplary and aggravated damages from the two defendants.

She is also seeking an injunction to restrain the defendants from making further statements, whether oral or by way of publication, against her in connection with any matters related to National Feedlot Corporation Sdn Bhd (NFC) or its associated companies.

The Wanita Umno chief claimed that the two defendants had systematically and maliciously launched a campaign to ‘attack, discredit, malign and defame the plaintiff’ by spreading slanderous allegations against her. — Bernama
