Three foreigners among seven arrested for gambling

KOTA KINABALU: Seven men, including three foreigners, were arrested by police for involvement in numerous gambling activities.

City police chief Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Sofi Zakaria, said the suspects, aged 21 to 58, were arrested at an open space nearby the Safma market, between 9.20am to 9.50am on June 23.

Ahmad Sofi said the five men, including the three foreigners, were arrested for gambling in an illegal game commonly known as ‘Ketam-ketam’.

“Police confiscated all gambling paraphenalia as well as RM337 in cash during the raid,” he said at a press conference at the city police headquarters in Karamunsing yesterday.

In the same raid, police also separately detained two men for selling four digit (4D) numbers illegally to the members of the public, said Ahmad Sofi.

According to him, police recovered several pieces of papers with numbers written on them along with RM558 in cash from both men.

All the suspects have been remanded to be investigated under Section 7 (2) and Section 9 (1) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953 for illegal gambling.
