KUCHING: The people are urged to reduce their water consumption and use it sparingly in view of the hot and dry weather.

According to a press statement from Kuching Water Board received here yesterday, consumers were also asked to promptly call their Hotline (082-240069) or SMS them at 019-8866650 should they see any pipe leak or burst.

“This will help to ensure continuity of supply and minimise interruption of water supply should the dry weather continues,” said the statement.

The board is monitoring the situation very closely and has activated its ‘Drought Contingency Plan’.

“Internally, we have suspended all non-essential flushing and cleaning activities to conserve water.”

The prevailing draught has resulted in low river flow in Sungai Sarawak Kiri, the main raw water source for KWB. The downpour in the catchment areas has brought some respite, but there is still a high demand from consumers due to the weather.

Presently, the water supply situation in the city and its surrounding area is normal and there is adequate supply.
