MIRI: Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) Sarawak sealed a historic service agreement with Majupun Sdn Bhd (Majupun) for the provision of TM’s Metro-E service of 22 Mbps for its hotel, Miri Marriot Resort and Spa.

TM Sarawak general manager, Abdul Rahim Mohd Ali said that this partnership is the first of its nature between TM and a 5-star hotel in Sarawak.

“The agreement is one of the historic signing as it is the biggest bandwidth ever subscribed by a hotel in Sarawak,” he said yesterday.

Moreover, he told that the agreement created another good synergy between a dynamic 5-star hotel and Malaysia’s leading communication company for the benefit of the hotel guests and patrons.

“Under the three year service agreement, TM will be the network provider for Metro-E 22 Mbps to Miri Marriot and Spa,” he added.

Abdul Rahim revealed that the partnership between TM and Majupun was meaningful as it symbolised the determination to have the benefits of a digital lifestyle made available to more people, especially hotel guests.

“This first partnership of its nature in Sarawak (between TM and a hotel company) will transform the trends of local hotels with the value-added benefits of a digital lifestyle, brought about via bigger bandwidth connectivity.

“Thus, any hotel offering high speed internet access will be the customers’ preferrred choice and if it is free, this will make the offer more attractive,” he said.

Furthermore, he told that with the signing agreement, TM also hoped to have more collaboration with other hotels in the near future.

Through such collaborations would help extend high speed broadband usage to more hotel patrons and guests.

“TM is always keen to do their part to boost the growth of broadband usage among Malaysians, enabling us to Connect, Communicate and Collaborate better with each other, thus will help to boost the ICT development as outlined in the National Broadband Plan,” he stressed.

Commenting on the service, Miri Marriot Resort and Spa general manager, Marcel Hinderer said that Metro-E is a cost effective and flexible service that allows corporate to upgrade to a higher bandwidth without incurring the costs of setting up new equipment or additional training.

“Based on the Carrier Class Ethernet industry standards, this technology help eliminate barriers to efficiency, speed and performance by simplifying networks and connecting people more efficiently,” Marcel said.

According to him, Internet is a feature that is a ‘must-have’ service provided by hotels, especially where more mobile gadgets become popular.

“The service is an advantage to the hotel in attracting future patrons and also to improve the hotel’s operations,” he added.

The bigger 22 Mbps bandwidth capacity is also another edge of competition among other hoteliers for its added-value services offered.

“Thus, through the service agreement, Miri Marriot Resort and Spa has added it milestone in moving another step forward to meet or exceed its customer expectation as well as satisfaction,” Marcel said.

The agreement signing was held at the hotel in presence of TM general manager of Enterprise (Energy Sector), Norazam Jaafar and Miri Marriot Resort and Spa director of sales and marketing, Pamela Ong, as the witnesses.
