KUCHING: Animal lovers and their pets will fill the streets of Kuching on July 15 for the Hills Charity Run and Dogathon 2012.
Some 250 participants have already signed up for the event and organiser Hills Shopping Mall is expecting another 100 participants for the Sarawak Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) fundraiser.
“Sub-categories are 3km Dogathon, 5km Men’s Open, 5km Women’s Open, 5km Men’s Veteran, 5km Women’s Veteran, 10km Men’s Open and 10km Women’s Open,” Hills Shopping Mall general manager Gabriel Hii told a press conference.
For the Dogathon, Hii said each owner can bring along a maximum of three dogs and the animals would be given health checks.
“The owners can hold smaller dogs while bigger dogs are to be put on a leash. And strictly no cats are allowed,” he said.
The top three prizes for the Men’s Open 10km run are RM800, RM500 and RM300, while for the Women’s Open 10km run, the top three prizes are RM500, RM300 and RM200.
For the other categories, the top three prizes are RM300, RM200 and RM100.
“This will be an annual event and the top 10 finishers in each category will receive a trophy and certificate of participation,” said Hii.
Registration fees ranging from RM25 to RM40 per adult are inclusive of a Fila event T-shirt and participants will also receive vouchers from Sushi King and Kim Bay Restaurant.
Hills Shopping Mall’s first marathon aims to gather Kuchingites in the spirit of giving and friendship as well as encourage and promote a healthier lifestyle in a fun environment. It also aims to create awareness of loving pets and their proper care.
Apart from the run, there will also be fun activities and an SSPCA pet adoption programme at Hills Shopping Mall.
Registered participants can collect their race packs from the Hills customer service counter on the lower ground floor on July 13-14 from 10am to 10pm.
