Czech president visits orang utan sanctuary, traditional longhouse

PADAWAN, Sarawak: Visiting President of the Czech Republic Vaclav Klaus and his wife, Livia Klausova, and delegation spent almost two hours visiting attractions in the Borneo Highlands here yesterday.

The delegation, accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu and Federal Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Douglas Uggah Embas, who is the minister-in-attendance, visited the Semenggoh National Park to see the orang utan after a briefing given by Sarawak Forestry officers.

Then the delegation visited Kampung Annah Rais, a longhouse settlement of the Bidayuh community, and joined the local people for lunch.

The visitors are scheduled to return to Kuching and attend a briefing on the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) at Wisma Bapa Malaysia and attend a dinner hosted by Sarawak Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud at his residence in Demak Jaya.

Klaus and his delegation, who are on a five-day visit to Malaysia, are scheduled to depart for Indonesia tomorrow. — Bernama
