Police still looking for rape suspect

KENINGAU: Police are still searching for a local man who was suspected of raping a girl in a village in the Sook area here in May.

District police chief, Deputy Superintendent Zahari Mohamed said here yesterday the victim lodged a police report with the district police headquarters here on Friday at 4.58 pm.

He said the 17-year-old victim claimed that on May 30 this year about 10pm during a Kaamatan celebration at her house, a man whom she is acquainted with raped the victim in front of her house toilet.

The victim was on her way home from the house of her relative.

The victim tried to put up a fight with the suspect but in vain, Zahari said.

He said the victim was a bit drunk as she had a drinking session since 6pm.

Zahari said an appointment with a medical officer had been made to carry out a check-up on the victim.

He said police from the Criminal Investigation Department were still tracing the local suspect who is also from the same village as the victim.

Police are investigating the case under Section 376 (3) of the Penal Code.
