Man fined $100 for littering in the public

KUALA BELAIT: The Enforcement Unit of the Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Board issued a B$100 fine against an individual for irresponsibly discarding rubbish in a public area in Seria, Belait District, Borneo Bulletin reported.

The man was fined for discarding papers, rug sacks, plastics and boxes on the roadside along Jln Perakong, Seria. He was given seven days to settle the fine.

The irresponsible scattering of rubbish within the public area is a violation under Chapter 30, Section 12 of the Minor Offences Act, which is punishable with a fine of B$1,000 for the first offence. In the event of subsequent offences, a fine of $3,000 will be levied with an imprisonment term of not more than three months.

The inspection and penalty are part of the department’s firm action against the act of littering, and serve the interests of the general public.
