BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The Creative Industries Festival 2012, organised by Creative Industries Research Cluster (CIRC) of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), is held in two phases with a common theme of promoting innovative ideas in Bruneian creative industries, Borneo Bulletin reported.
Phase I of the festival was conducted yesterday at the Atrium of The Mall, Gadong. Present as the guest of honour to launch the festival was the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Hazair bin Hj Abdullah.
The main aim of the festival is to create a platform in launching innovative ideas and showcase creative products. Most of the exhibits are derived from the research projects initiated by members of the CIRC, covering three major artistic fields namely visual arts, digital media and the performing arts.
The objectives of the festival are to promote innovative methodologies in producing and marketing Bruneian creative products, conduct surveys on their target audience and evaluate their responses for the future mapping of Brunei’s creative industries.
At the same time, the festival is an ideal proposal to showcase the research outcomes achieved by CIRC researchers involving students where the research outcomes will be published in a collective festival catalogue, which will be available for sale later this month.
The Creative Industries Festival will also help the researchers to identify the potential products for further branding development in the future which includes workshops conducted by UBD lecturers and Bruneian artists.
These workshops are the Water Colour Painting Workshop I, II and III by Malaysian artist Ismail Kader at The Mall, Gadong; Writing Scripts for drama workshop at the Student Centre, UBD; and the Drama and Theatre Workshop also at the Student Centre, UBD.
Also included in the workshops is a one-day 3-D Animation Workshop at Lab 5 UBD-IBM Centre on July 18 and 19 from 8.30am to 4.15pm, which is limited to 10 participants a day with a fee of B$50.
Meanwhile, the first workshop will be held on July 11-14, 2012 from 11.30am to 4pm and is limited to 20 participants a day with a fee of B$30, while the writing scripts workshop will be held on July18 from 2pm to 5pm and limited to 15 participants with a fee of B$30.
The Drama and Theatre workshop will be held on July 19, from 2pm to 5pm and is limited to 25 participants with a fee of B$30.
The registration deadline for all workshops is on July14 at The Mall and based on a first-come, first-served basis.
