KUCHING: A total of 2, 264 taxis and hired vans in the state will receive the RM520 tyre voucher under the 1Malaysia Taxi programme (Program Teksi Rakyat 1Malaysia- Tr1MA).

Announcing this, chairman of Commercial Vehicles Licencing Board Hasbi Habibollah said all taxis drivers with the First Driver status were eligible to apply for the voucher.

He said application forms could be obtained free of charge and available from CVLB branches in Kuching, Miri and Sibu.

Alternatively, the forms can be downloaded from www.spad.gov.my.

“As announced by Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak) on June 24, all taxi drivers in the state with the first driver status are eligible for Tr1MA,” Hasbi told reporters yesterday at CVLB office here.

He said application must be attached with a copy of driver’s card and MyKad.

Hasbi said applications must reach the CVLB office by Aug 15 before they be sent to the headquarters by Sept 23 to be processed.

“In Sarawak, the number of licensed taxis with CVLB is small, so I hope they can send their applications by Aug 15 for us to scrutinise before sending them to the headquarters,” Hasbi, who is Limbang MP said.

He revealed that as of July 13, there were 2, 264 licenced taxis and hired vans – Kuching (1,033), Miri (695) and Sibu (536).

A total of 726 applications for TR1MA had been received as of July 12, he added.

Hasbi also said that the Tr1MA could be redeemed at the appointed Good Year and Continental tyre shops of which four are in Kuching, Miri (2), Sibu (2) and Bintulu (3).

For Kapit and Limbang, he said discussion was still under way on how to help the taxis in the two divisions.

Meanwhile, Hasbi pointed out that Tr1MA was not a political gimmick, but was aimed to help taxis and hired vans owners.
