KINABATANGAN: Meet Qilzcha Malan. Her mother is a farmer and her dad is a forester.

Qilzcha is also a member of e-Kasih, a program through which the government provides assistance and opportunity to poor Malaysians to improve them economically.

Last Friday, Qilzcha who hails from Tongod was among 15 girls who received a sewing equipment each from Kuamut Assemblyman Masiung Banah after successfully attending a 20-day sewing course under the 1Azam program.

But Qilzcha, 20, who has an STPM certificate, looks further than opening a business in tailoring. She has been accepted into Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI) in Perlis for a degree in Physical Education and Health.

“I’m taking this course while waiting for my application to further my studies at UPSI. After graduation, I’d like to make tailoring a downstream business apart from being a teacher,” she said.

She obtained 2Bs and 2B+ in the the STPM examination in the business stream, saying that her motto is “Study smart, study steady.”

She also represented the state team in netball since she was in Primary Six and throughout her secondary education.

She attributed her selection to her height which is obviously an advantage.

Smart, beautiful and confident, Qilzcha does not let her background deter her from her desire for success.

“You shouldn’t believe that you cannot do something before even trying,” she said.
