KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian telecommunications provider Maxis and data and broadband provider Redtone have entered into a five-year infrastructure and sharing agreement for the rollout of LTE, reports telecompaper.

Both Maxis and Redtone are looking to launch their 4G LTE services early next year in selected areas of the Klang Valley, with other regions to follow closely thereafter.

The infrastructure sharing partnership between the companies responds to the government’s call for operators to reduce duplication of network assets.

Redtone also said that the agreement would help it achieve the broadband rollout obligation of 50 percent of Malaysia’s population.

Redtone and Maxis will combine their LTE spectrum to allow Maxis to provide LTE services while Maxis will offer Redtone wholesale telecommunications services (2G, 3G, and LTE). Last year, Maxis also signed an infrastructure sharing agreement with mobile operator U Mobile.
