BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Temburong – YB Awg Hj Sulaiman bin Hj Ahad, a member of the Legislative Council representing the Temburong District and who is also the village head of Kg Belingos in an interview with the Borneo Bulletin said, “On behalf of the people residing in the Temburong District, I would like to express my gratitude to Allah the Almighty and His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam for the titah (decree) to build a bridge linking the Temburong and Brunei-Muara Districts, Borneo Bulletin reported.

“This is a blessing for the people, not only in the Temburong District but throughout the nation. This is also a good news for our neighbouring states,” he said before adding that the establishment of the bridge will further enhance closer relationship between the residents in Temburong and those from the other districts.

Awg Hj Sulaiman added that in fact, the issue was raised about 40 years back by former members of the Legislative Council.

It was a news much awaited by the people in the country. Once the construction of the bridge has been materialised, the journey to and from Temburong would be faster and smoother.

Asked when the project will begin,  Awg Hj Sulaiman said he was unsure of the actual date, but, he added hopefully with the recent titah, the construction by relevant agencies will speed-up.

Awg Hj Sulaiman, while asked if the construction of the bridge would lead to a decline in speedboat services in the district, he replied that the services would not be affected much because alternatively, they could change their focus to tourists, who prefer exploring the different environment of the district using speedboats.

Regarding the development in the district, Awg Sulaiman said, “If you look at the current infrastructure, you will realise that a lot of changes have been made through government agencies projects carried out in the district. These projects include the construction of a bridge across the Pandaruan River, linking the Temburong District and Limbang. The bridge is expected to be completed within 15 months, and this is one of the rapid developments in progress. Another progress would be the new boat terminal, which is now very convenient to the public. These show that the district is now experiencing rapid development from time to time.

On the other hand, on a question in relation to visiting tourists to the district, he said they were very well encouraged, not only locals but also foreign tourists, who love the natural beauty of flora and fauna, especially at Ulu Belalong, which is one of the main tourists attraction in the district, which could be further promoted to the world.

In his closing remark,  Awg Hj Sulaiman bin Hj Ahad said, “We are really thankful for everything, and we will continue to pray to Allah the Almighty for His Majesty’s good health and longevity, to continue to rule the nation.”
