KOTA KINABALU: Four local prostitutes were arrested by police for being involved in a couple of prostitution theft cases known as ‘Ting-Ting’ in the state capital.

City police chief ACP Ahmad Sofi Zakaria said the suspects, aged 16 to 21, were arrested by police while waiting for potential customers or victims along a back alley in Kampung Air, here on Wednesday.

Sofi said the modus operandi of the prostitute is to have their accomplice steal from their clients, before or during sex service, inside modified rented rooms.

The suspects have been remanded and the case would be investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft.

In a similar case, a foreign woman was detained by police for prostitution.

The 40-year-old woman was detained inside a rented room in Kampung Air, here on July 13 around 6.20pm.

Police confiscate couple of condoms and cash RM70 during the arrest, said Sofi, adding that a customer was also detained to assist police in their investigation.

The case would be investigated under Section 372B of the Penal Code for prostitution.
