TUARAN, Sabah: Datuk Seri Wilfred Bumburing yesterday announced his resignation from the United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (Upko), a Sabah Barisan Nasional component party of which he was hitherto the deputy president.

The announcement was made at an event in Dalit, near here, also attended by opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Bumburing said he and several grassroots leaders of Upko submitted their letters of resignation to the party headquarters last week.

“After taking into consideration all factors, I hereby announce that I am leaving the BN (Barisan Nasional),” he said.

He also announced the setting up of a political movement called ‘Angkatan Perubahan Sabah’ (Sabah Reform Front).

On July 23, Bumburing, who is the MP for Tuaran, resigned as the chairman of Tuaran BN.

Yesterday, Beaufort MP Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin announced his resignation as an Umno Supreme Council member, Beaufort Umno Division chief and Beaufort BN chairman with immediate effect. — Bernama
