KOTA KINABALU: FOR those not fussy about where they tee off and will trade grade for shade, indoor golf is highly recommended.

And in Sabah, golfing under a roof is possible at Epal Screen Golf, the state’s first and only indoor golf facility located at Sadong Jaya, Kota Kinabalu.

According to a spokesman, Leanne Teo, Screen Golf allows golf to be played on a photographically simulated driving range or golf course, usually in an indoor setting.

It is a technical system, used by some golfers to continue their sport at a converted premise, regardless of weather conditions and time of day.

There are four golfing outlets within Epal Screen Golf.

“The main advantage is to be able to conveniently play and practise in a controlled environment without any pressure, green fees or tee-off times,” Teo said.

The system uses sophisticated technology to track and analyse factors such as projection and contact information of ball and club. It can fully automate ball retrieval and tee height as well.

“Not only that, it also films the swing for analysis with a professional and facilitates play on international courses indoor. Our state-of-the-art 3D screen simulators make playing just as demanding as on the real course.

“Every condition is replicated in full life-like dimension. You will experience the thrill of hitting a perfect drive down the middle of the fairway.

“You can practise your long or short game. Or take a few strokes off your score with the instant shot feedback you get with every swing. It’s a perfect place to practise for both beginner and veteran alike,” she explained.

The owner is a Korean golf teaching pro, No Juong Hwan, who has been residing in Kota Kinabalu since 2006.

“He realises golfers cannot play or practise anytime they want due to the weather or busy schedules and for those who dislike the hot sun, especially women, they can have their game anytime they want in a private, comfortable setting with air-conditioning,” Teo added

The golfing outlets are open to the public.
