Sabah customs seize firecrackers, fireworks worth RM490,000

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Customs seized 16,741 boxes containing various types of firecrackers and fireworks worth RM490,000 after raiding two houses at Taman BDC Kolombong, Inanam here on Friday.

Sabah Custom’s director Dr Janathan Kandok said unpaid duty on the seized items amounted to RM46,377.18 while a 57-year-old man was also detained.

“Our investigations revealed that the house was used as a store for firecrackers and fireworks and also acted as a distribution centre,” he told reporters here Tuesday.

Janathan said during the first raid 1,932 packets of firecrackers and fireworks worth RM4,474.54 was seized while 14,809 packets worth RM350,000 of similar items was seized.– BERNAMA
