Jabu encourages rural folk to take up rubber planting

MARUDI: Landowners in Upper Baram here were recently reminded to take up rubber planting to improve their livelihood.

In pointing this out, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu brought to their attention the success enjoyed by the people in Betong through planting the high yielding cash crop which had brought them good returns.

He told them that a family with 10 acres planted with the high yielding variety could easily earn up to RM10,000 per month.

The Minister of Rural Development and Minister of Modernisation of Agriculture said this when speaking at the ‘Meet-the-people’ session at Kampung Lio Mato, Upper Baram last Friday morning.

He also told the people not to be swayed by the propaganda spread by the opposition parties, as it was only the Barisan Nasional government that cared for their needs and wellbeing.

While at Lio Mato, Jabu said the government would give some 185,000 high yielding rubber seedlings to the people of Upper Baram, and presented Jalur Gemilang to the community leaders.

He also released 8,000 Ikan Empurau fry at Panera Forward Base Sg Kelapang Tagang System at Long Peluan.

Present were Assistant Minister of Public Utilities (Electricity and Communications) Datuk Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau Jok, Senator Lihan Jok, Deputy State Secretary Datu Ose Murang and Miri Resident Anthonio Katty Galis.
