Welfare state concept a cover for PAS’ theocratic ambitions — Chor

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA vice-president Datuk Seri Chor Chee Heung yesterday took a swipe at PAS over its unclear political intentions as well as the apparent lack of consensus among the opposition pact.

He pointed out that one minute, PAS claimed to be fighting for a so-called ‘welfare state’ and the next, it claimed it wanted an ‘Islamic state’ instead.

“This is deceitful of PAS as they’re trying to mislead the voters by repackaging their Islamic state concept and calling it a welfare state instead,” he said in a statement.

Chor, who is Housing and Local Government Minister, pointed out that the opposition pact had claimed to reach a consensus at their convention last year, whereby PAS would agree to give up its goal of establishing an Islamic state.

But he noted that PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat and president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang had insisted that the implementation of hudud was only a technical issue, and that DAP could not stop PAS from implementing it.

“Therefore, I’m curious to know what consensus has been reached by the opposition parties? This is because the top leaders in PAS seem to be talking about some other topic,” he said.

He concluded that there had never been a consensus among the opposition pact as they did not have a common direction and were not interested in looking after the common development of the nation or the people’s interest.

“They’re only interested in fishing for votes to seize power for their own selfish purposes,” he said.

Chor said those concerned should stop making absurd remarks claiming that the so-called welfare state would be beneficial to all Malaysians. — Bernama
