The London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG) has announced that more than two million spectators have now spectator passed through the Olympic Park since doors opened on Friday 27 July, london2o12 reported.
Millions watch sport on the big screen
The London 2012 Live Sites, which give people the opportunity to watch sport on the big screen in their community, have attracted 2.7 million people, with 350,000 turning up on the busiest day – Super Saturday on 4 August.
Many of the 22 Live Sites across the UK also offer live music, dance performances and a variety of activities including have-a-go sport sessions. Find a Live Site near you
Thousand witness Olympic history on London’s streets
The streets of central London also welcomed an estimated 160,000 spectators as they witnessed Alistair Brownlee become the first British athlete to win gold and his brother Jonny bronze in the men’s Triathlon.
Around 120,000 spectators lined the streets for the women’s Marathon and 60,000 turned out for the women’s Triathlon.
LOCOG Chair Seb Coe said: ‘The passion and spirit of the British public has been outstanding. The huge crowds have contributed to making the atmosphere at events in both the Olympic Park and venues around the country incredible.’
