Jailed for theft, not producing MyKad when nabbed

KUCHING: A 32-year-old man was sentenced to a year in jail and fined RM400 for theft and failing to produce his MyKad when requested by the authorities in May this year.

Mohd Rosman Ibrahim pleaded guilty to the charge before Magistrate Maris Agan who also ordered him to serve a month in prison if unable to pay the fine.

For the first charge, Rosman was guilty of breaking the window of a car at the parking lot at Wisma Hopoh and stealing two laptops and a handbag belonging to a woman who is the car owner at 6.30pm on Aug 3 this year.

For the second charge, he failed to produce his Mykad when nabbed by police in a hut at Kampung Gersik at about 2.50am, three days after the theft.

His first charge comes under Section 379 of the Penal Code while the second charge under Section 7 of the National Registration Act 1959 (Act 1978).

Rosman failed to settle the fine and will be in prison for a year and a month. Inspector Yunus Sahak prosecuted.
