BINTULU: Over 400 orphans and 1,400 needy people including widows received donations for the upcoming Hari Raya celebration at Bangunan Martabat RPR Sebiew here yesterday.

The donation was presented by Assistant Minister of Tourism cum Jepak assemblyman Datuk Talib Zulpilip. Also present was Bintulu Peryatim chairman Haidar Khan Asghar Khan.

Talib said with the continuous support given by the people, the government under the Barisan Nasional was able to carry out its development policies smoothly.

He said when development policies were implemented, more growth would be achieved and more facilities provided for the people which lead to economic prosperity.

“Funds and donations can only be collected if there is economic prosperity. We progress because the people are with the government,” said the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation chairman while urging the people to continue upholding national unity for greater prosperity.

He hoped the people would continue giving their support and cooperation to the government’s development policies.

Meanwhile, Haidar in his speech urged the children to be more focussed on their studies in order to become a better person when they grow up.

He said education is their only tool to survive and have quality life in the future. He therefore hoped the children especially the orphans would not take education lightly.

“Today we give some donations to our children to show our love and care to them and hope they can use the money wisely,” he said.
