Police tracking down rat gang leader

JOHOR BAHARU: The police are tracking down the leader of ‘Geng Tikus’ (Rat Gang) following the arrest of five of its members at a house in Taman JP Perdana here on Aug 4.

The 40-year-old Lee Sai Kiew’s last known address was No. 280 Cheroh, Raub, Pahang, said Johor police chief Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff.

“The gang was believed to be involved in a spate of burglaries, robberies and car thefts in Iskandar Malaysia,” he said here today.

He said four local men and an Indonesian woman aged between 25 and 30, who were hauled up in the 5.30am raid, had been remanded for two weeks. Three of them have seven criminal records, including murder, robbery, car theft and drug cases, he added.

He said the police recovered two stolen cars, seven laptops, four LCD televisions, a VCD player, a home theatre system, and a sauna treatment equipment from the house.

A metal cutter and a bunch of Master keys believed to be used in the break-ins and car thefts were also found, he added.

Meanwhile, Mokhtar said the police also busted another burglary and car theft gang in Seri Alam with the arrest three men and a woman aged between 23 and 35 in a raid at a house in Taman Desa Cemerlang here at about 4am on Saturday.

The police recovered two Toyota Wish compact MPVs and personal documents which were reported stolen in Taman Johor Jaya, he said.

A penknife, a metal cutter, two spanners and two Allen keys were also seized from the gang, which was believed to be involved in 15 house break-ins and car thefts in Seri Alam, he added. –Bernama
