Raya extra special for Kudat politician

KOTA KINABALU: There was more to Hari Raya than just having ‘ketupat’, ‘rendang’ and cookies for Kudat Women Umno chief Datin Aminah Ambrose this year.

It was, in fact extra special for her as relatives flew all the way from Australia to greet her during her Raya Open House at her residence here.

The simple Raya gathering became special as Aminah and her relatives were able to update their family tree.

“We traded notes and traced back our roots. It is always nice to learn that you actually are related to this person, that person … we become one big happy family,” said Aminah.

With the company of her aunts, Magdelina Lim @ Tati, 91, of Kampung Tanaki, Penampang and Papar-born Margaret Chia-Toft, 83, who returned from Australia, they looked at old photographs and filled in the missing parts in their family tree.

“It is such a fruitful get-together as we managed to correct some facts, and added a few names to the family tree.

“It was down memory lane for most of us … we had so much fun, it was laughter all the way,” said Aminah, who hosted the Raya event after attending the Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin’s Raya Open House at the Istana Negeri.
