IN SESSION: Segi law students take part in a mock trial.

KUCHING: SEGi College Sarawak’s moot court, which was launched last June, is now being actively used by the college’s law students.

The ability to conduct mock court sessions has given students exposure to the court environment and a different perspective out of the normal classroom setting.

“Having facilities such as a moot court will help the students to familiarise themselves with the actual workplace environment that is needed in the law field,” said SEGi College Sarawak principal Elina Tiu.

Having this facility will encourage law students to train their skills and enhance their knowledge in the field.

“Upon graduation, our students will have already benefited from a platform whereby they experience real-life court sessions and the environment of law and justice,” added Tiu.

SEGi College Sarawak has successful collaborations with three renowned international partner universities — University of London (UOL), United Kingdom; Northumbria University (NU), United Kingdom and Queensland University of Technology (QUT) Australia for their law programmes.

UOL is a world-renowned provider of legal education with more than 19,000 students in over 130 countries. SEGi is a registered centre for UOL international programmes.

NU was founded in 1969 and has approximately 14,800 students from different countries. It was voted the best new university for three consecutive years by the Sunday Times.

QUT is one of Australia’s largest universities with over 40,000 students, including over 5,000 international students from over 80 countries. It is also one of Australia’s largest law schools and one of South East Asia’s leading educators in legal and justice studies.

SEGi College Sarawak’s law programmes are recognised by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency and the Ministry of Higher Education.

The college also offers financial assistance in the form of study loans and scholarships to high achievers in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysian (STPM).
