Former cop still waiting for cash assistance

KUCHING: A former policeman from Marudi is unhappy that he has yet to receive cash assistance from the government.

Corporal Ajang Jok (Rtd), 78, said it has been five months since he applied for the assistance under the ‘Bantuan Tabung Amanah Warisan Polis’, which gives out RM1,000, and the ‘Bantuan Bekas Polis Berkhidmat Zaman Darurat 1962 – 1974’ that hands out RM3,000.

Ajang had served as a constable in the police force since 1951 and retired as corporal in 1981.

“Based on reports, the payment would be processed and received within one month from the date of application. Ironically, some of my police colleagues, whom I had helped in their applications, had already received their payments but not me,” he said.

According to Ajang, he submitted the application to the Marudi Police Station in March. He also said two other former colleagues, Apoi Arong and Philip Lejau from Baram, have also not heard from the relevant authorities.

“Most of my former colleagues, who have yet to receive the assistance, are now in their late 70s, and the money from the assistance will be very useful to us in our old age.

“I request those in authority to look into our predicament and process our applications and pay out the cash assistance to us as soon as possible,” he said.
