Man found dead beside car

SUDDEN DEATH: Forensics police examine the victim’s body for clues.

KUCHING: The body of a local was found lying next to his car at a parking lot near a flat complex in Sungai Moyan, Batu Kawah yesterday morning.

Residents spotted Jong lying face-up on the ground next to his Perodua Myvi around 7.30am.

The 59-year-old from Jalan Keretapi was believed to have been dead for several hours prior to being found.

Police investigators and forensics unit personnel, led by deputy district chief Supt Pauzi Bujang, rushed to the scene upon being informed of the find and sealed off the area for investigation.

The deceased’s cap was found in a nearby drain and his pair of spectacles on the ground. His wallet did not contain any cash.

Despite an exhaustive search of the surrounding area, police were unable to find the key to Jong’s car which had its two front windows wound down.

Several residents said they often saw the victim’s Myvi at the same spot in the parking lot late at night, but had no idea what he was doing there, or whether he was in it.

Pauzi, meanwhile, said police have classified the incident as sudden death pending a postmortem.

“Initial investigation does not suggest foul play. There were some bruises on his neck and arm though believed to be old injuries. We will wait for the postmortem to determine the cause of death before proceeding with the next course of action,” Pauzi said when contacted.

The deceased’s family when notified turned up at the scene but declined to comment.
