SIBU: Community leaders have been urged to be agents of the government.

Speaking to 34 community leaders at Matu district office during the recent presentation of ‘duit raya’, Jemoreng assemblyman Abu Seman Jahwie urged them to work closely with the government.

“Community leaders form the bridge between the government and the people. They are also the eyes and ears of the government helping to explain and disseminate government policies to the people.

“In that way, people, especially in the outskirts, are better informed of government’s efforts to bring about better quality of life to them,” said Abu Seman, who is a political secretary to the Chief Minister.

“Parallel to this, community leaders need to work closely with various government agencies to facilitate dissemination of government policies.

“This will help prevent people from being confused by negative government sentiment spread by irresponsible quarters.”

He mentioned that being community leaders, they had an important role to play in servicing the people.

Hence, he said community leaders should be proud of their appointment and should regard this as a calling.
