SIBU: Temenggong Vincent Lau Lee Ming has urged non-governmental organisations (NGOs) here to recruit more young members for leadership roles to avoid succession crisis when the time comes.

He noted that many NGOs have made it constitutional for the key leaders to hold posts for limited tenures, describing the move as wise.

Speaking as the guest of honour at a membership gathering of Lo Clan Association Sibu at Kingwood Hotel recently, Lau said most NGOs have youths and women’s sections.

“You should scout for leadership potential among the youths and women members,” he advised the various associations.

He also advised them to keep abreast of time and be always ready to change when the situation calls for it.

On the Lo Clan Association Sibu, Lau said it is one of the surname-based bodies that has been doing remarkably well.

“The number of people surnamed Lo is relatively small in Sibu. But your clansmen association has been very much alive and kicking,” he noted.

Commending the Lo clansmen community for being close-knit, he congratulated the association leadership, saying, “This cohesiveness of the clan is the fruit of your consistent efforts.”

On the dinner gathering, Lau said he was glad to know that it was also an occasion for the association to show appreciation to the elders and concerns for children’s education.

Association president Lo Ing Kiong, Sarawak Lo Clan Association president Lo Chi Kung and Rajang Port Authority chairman Vincent Goh were among those invited to address the gathering.
