Six family members made homeless in Papar fire

The double-storey semi -concrete house that was destroyed in the fire yesterday.

PAPAR: Six family members were made homeless when a double-storey semi concrete house was gutted in an early morning fire at Kampung Kelanahan, here yesterday.

It is believed the fire started from a kitchen, located on the first floor of the house around 7.40am.

According to Shahnizam Ahmad, 21, he was sleeping in his bedroom when he smelled smoke coming from the kitchen.

Shahnizam said he was shocked to see the kitchen on fire and immediately informed other family members.

“I woke up all my family members and immediately carried my 15-month old nephew and ran out from the house,” he said yesterday.

Fire and Rescue Services Department public relations officer Mohd Affendy Ramin said the department received a distress call at 8.29am and immediately dispatched two fire engines from the Papar fire station to the scene.

He said the fire was put under control about 20 minutes later while the whole operation ended around 10am.

No casualties were reported while the cause of the fire and total loss are still under investigation, he said.
