KUCHING: Members of the public are urged to register with Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) as there are many benefits to do so.

Ministry of International Trade and Industry (Miti) Sarawak director Sabariah Mohd Sofian said: “There are many benefits to be gained from registration. The public are urged to register online so that they can gain comprehensive information on export opportunities. One of the problems for Matrade is the lack of members.”

“The public refused to register for some reason. Registration is actually free and members do not have to be exporters,” she told reporters during a media briefing at the state Miti office here yesterday.

Matrade is one of the agencies under Miti that promotes Malaysian products overseas as well as organising business and trade missions, among other roles.

Meanwhile, representatives from other Miti-linked agencies were also present at the briefing to update members of the press on their roles and programmes.

They include Malaysian Investment Development Authority, which serves to promote both domestic and foreign investments and to bring investment into the state.

Others who were present were Malaysian Productivity Corporation Sarawak director Suhaimy Talib, SME Corp state assistant director Azrul Fahmi Sulaiman, SME Bank credit administration head Selina Saufi and Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Sarawak head Mohd Suffian Bolhassan.
