Govt supportive of positive and healthy activities among youths – Khoo

KOTA KINABALU: The State Government is supportive of positive and healthy activities especially among the youths.

Speaking at the Sabah Idol 2012, Kota Kinabalu selection final here on Friday, Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department Datuk Edward Khoo said it was a good programme to engage youths in healthy programmes.

The fact that the contestants can sing in any languages in the contest – English,  Malay, Mandarin, Kadazan, reflected the 1Malaysia spirit, Khoo added.

“Sabahans are very talented in singing, everybody can sing in Sabah.

“Sabah has a talent pool and it is a good programme to get youths to engage in healthy programmes; we are very supportive of the programme,” he said.

A total of 25 finalists battled it out at Sabah Idol 2012 KK Selection, which was organized by Borneo Events Production. The event was co-sponsored by the Ministry of Youth and Sports Sabah.

Meanwhile, Peter Dicky Lee, organizer and chief judge of the event, said the event would unearth the many talents in Sabah.

The winner of Sabah Idol will be promoted in RTM programmes, such as musicals and dramas.

A total of 100 contestants have shown up for the audition in Kota Kinabalu and 25 were shortlisted for the KK selection.

The contestants are between 13 and 40 years old.

“We have done (selection rounds) in Tawau  and Lahad Datu at the request of the respective Ybs (elected representatives).

“Next week we will be going to Sandakan and Kudat,” he said, adding that the dates for selection rounds in Tamparuli and Tuaran will be confirmed in due course.

Peter added that the top two winners of each district, with the exception of five winners from Kota Kinabalu, will go into the grand final in late November or early December.

“Datuk Edward Khoo sponsored the Kota Kinabalu level selection round, thanks to Datuk, this event happened in Kota Kinabalu.”

Peter said the top five grand finalists would receive a sponsored cruise by Star Cruise.

The champion of the KK selection is Hadi Jaidi Arifin, followed by the first runner up Diandra Justin, second runner up Jekley Bin Goidon, third runner up Mohd Nazrulizam Bin Ag Abdullah, and fourth runner up Joveya M. Jeuning.

On the other hand, Mailter Pascalis was awarded the Most Popular, Syarilna Wati Binti Molin for the Best Costume and Felicia Ngoh Mee Ching for Best Showmanship.
