23 Malaysia Day babies born at Likas hospital

KOTA KINABALU: Twenty-three babies who were born at the Likas Women and Children’s Hospital on Malaysia Day, yesterday received a special gift box each from Disposable Soft Goods (DSG) (M) Sdn Bhd.

The diapers manufacturing company distributed gift boxes consisting of Pet Pet diapers, the limited edition Pet Pet towels, and a special registration pack for the Pet Pet programme, to some 1,000 mothers who gave birth to their babies yesterday in 49 general hospitals nationwide.

General manager Foo Yoke Min pointed out that the special Malaysia Day visit and distributiion of the gifts was the company’s way of commemorating September 16.

“The gift boxes are our gifts to Malaysia Day babies for them to begin their life journey as Malaysians,” said Foo, adding that the ‘Pet Pet Mula Selesa, Mudah Sentiasa’ programme registration pack was to ease the burden of new mothers.

General trade executive of DSG (M) Sdn Bhd, Pang Siew Fong, disclosed that free samples of their Pet Pet diapers are being distributed to public and private hospitals in the state daily.

“To date, Pet Pet product samples are being distributed at the Damai Specialist Centre, the Kota Kinabalu Specialist Centre, Sabah Medical Centre, St Joseph Maternity Penampang, Tuaran Hospital, Kota Belud Hospital, Kudat Hospital, Pitas Hospital as well as at Tawau, Sandakan, and Kinabatangan hospitals,” said Pang.

Twenty-three-year-old Hamira Abdullah was the first mother to deliver at the hospital yesterday when she gave birth to a 3kg baby boy at 12.05am.

Meanwhile in SUNGAI PETANI,  nine babies were delivered at the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital (HSAH) on Malaysia Day.

HSAH director Dr Idris Ahmad said six of the babies were boys and three were girls.

“The first baby was born at 12.13 pm. Eight were delivered normally and one by cesarean. They weighed between 1.52kg and 3.55kg. Two were born prematurely and have been placed in the neo-natal intensive care unit (NICU),” he told Bernama.

Siti Nor Khatijah Razak, 25, who gave birth to a baby girl, said it was indeed a memorable day for her and her husband, Mohd Azahary Aziz, 28, as she was their firstborn.

“She came into the world at 12.13 pm weighing 2.81 kg, and we will name her Siti Nor Qalisya Damia,” she said.

Noraini Ahmad, 25, and Husaini Ghazali, 25, also celebrated the arrival of their first baby, a daughter weighing just 1.52 kg.

“My baby was actually due on Nov 12 but thank God I delivered safely at 1.41 am, although she has to be in the NICU,” said Noraini, appreciating the significance of the date.

Siti Aishah Zakaria, 21, and Badrul Nizam Daud, 26, also welcomed the birth of their first child, a son weighing 2.57kg at 7.37 am.

“My husband is very excited that he was born on Malaysia Day. We will name him Mohd Amir Asyraf and ensure that he will grow up to be patriotic,” she said.
