MIRI: Miri City Council (MCC) will resurface a stretch of road at the Piasau Utara 4 intersection to cover up the potholes and ensure a smoother drive.

Mayor Lawrence Lai said the resurfacing work, costing around RM100,000 for the 200m stretch of road, would commence this month.

“We’ve been receiving complaints from motorists that there are too many potholes on this road.

“The situation is worse when it rains because the potholes collect water and part of the road will get flooded,” he said during a visit to the site yesterday.

FOR RESURFACING: (From left) Lai, Kong, Hii and Chai examine a pothole at the Jalan Piasau Utara 4 intersection.

The potholes were caused by heavy vehicles as the road is in an industrial area.

He thanked philanthropist Hii King Chiong of Hii and Chin Service Centre for highlighting the matter to the council, which led to yesterday’s site visit.

Accompanying Lai during the visit were Hii, MCC engineer Chai Ko Het and councillor Kong San Hoe.

During the site visit, Lai made a stop at Kampung Pulau Melayu to check out the drain in one of the areas where water had stagnated as there was no proper outlet for it to flow out.

“To solve this problem, we will extend the drain with connecting culverts and make a proper outlet,” he said, adding that the project would commence this month.
