College CEO: Don’t ignore occupational safety, health

MIRI: Awareness of occupational safety and health is important in all industries, but many choose to ignore it.

CEO of Fajar International College, Dr Peter Tham pointed out that behaviour of individuals played an important part in creating this awareness.

And the objective of the occupational safety and health policy will only be attained if each and every one is aware of its importance.

Invited to give a talk on occupational safety and health awareness at Sarawak Forestry Corporation, Miri recently, Dr Tham said occupational safety and health was not confined to one or two areas, but covered the operation of the whole organisation.

“Occupational safety and health is not only the responsibility of the management but everyone.”

“Hence awareness must be created among staff. We should be aware that any accidents mean heavy cost to the organisation.”

Some of the 50 attendees came from Limbang, Niah and Long Lama.

The two-hour session which focuses on creating awareness of safety in the workplace received good response from participants.

Beside the talk, slide shows were shown to enhance understanding.
