MIRI: Ba Kelalan assemblyman Baru Bian yesterday commended Lawas police for their investigation into the murder of Edwin Singa Pelupis in Lawas on Sept 21, leading to the prosecution of eight suspects.

On the murder, he said it was totally a criminal case and not racial.

“I praise Lawas police for doing a good job in booking the culprits,” he said when contacted yesterday.

He further said he would conduct a watching brief for the family of the deceased when the case comes up for trial.

On a related matter, the state PKR chief urged police to investigate further into claims of drugs activities there.

In addition, he called on to the police to close all illegal gambling and entertainment outlets there and asked the local council to be more stringent when issuing licences.

Baru also suggested that a dialogue involving the public and relevant government agencies be held to find out the problems faced by the people there.

Meanwhile, he was all for a Pondok police (beat base) to be built in Lawas town.
