PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia wants to develop a wireless sensor network (WSN) on par with the developed nations such as the United States, Europe, Japan, South Korea and Australia, said Deputy Information, Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Maglin Dennis D’Cruz.

He said the new technology, which is considered to be one of the 10 technologies that will change the world in future, would certainly bring significant impact in the development of the agricultural, animal husbandry, environmental protection, health, infrastructural, traffic control, residential and office automation, halal industry as well as other sectors.

“Studies on the WSN technology at the international level is most encouraging with a global market value worth USD69.2 billion in 2013 and this is expected to continue to grow because of the significant demand from various quarters,” he said when opening the national seminar on wireless sensor network 2012, here yesterday.

The WSN is a sensor network technology designed to track, gather data and deliver them to remote control centres automatically without the use of wire. — Bernama
