Public prevent man from stealing tyre

KOTA KINABALU: Thanks to the public, a suspect was arrested by police for attempting to steal a spare tyre of a a four-wheel drive vehicle.

The 45-year-old suspect was seen trying to commit the offence near the Queen Elizabeth Hospital around 11.40am on September 27.

City police chief ACP Jauteh Dikun said the incident was realized by members of the public who informed the police of a man acting suspiciously in the area.

“Police immediately responded and a team of police were sent to the location.

“The suspect was immediately arrested and taken to the police station for further investigation,” he said at a press conference at the city police headquarters in Karamunsing here yesterday.

Jauteh said police also found a couple of items, namely padlocks, iron rods and a cutter, believed used by the suspect for his activity.

The vehicle owner was notified of the incident and had lodged a police report the same day, he said.

The suspect has been detained to be investigated under Section 379 A of the Penal Code.

Jauteh thanked the public for immediately informing the police which had prevented a theft from being committed.

He urged the public to continue to assist police in fighting crimes to keep the city safe.
