KOTA KINABALU: For a service fee of RM300, a woman was willing to sell her underage daughter into the sordid world of prostitution.

This shocking discovery was made when the 61-year-old mother was arrested by police while accompanying her 13-year-old daughter to meet a client at a budget hotel in Kampung Air here recently.

City police chief Assistant Commissioner Jauteh Dikun said the arrest was made on September 29 around 2pm after police were tipped off on the vice activity.

“Police investigation shows the woman was trafficking her daughter.

“We mounted a raid on the hotel and managed to arrest the woman as she was accompanying her 13-year-old daughter to meet a client for a sexual favour,” Jauteh told a press conference at the city police headquarters in Karamunsing yesterday.

According to him, further police investigation revealed that the girl had been pimped out thrice by her mother, including the one when the arrest was made on Thursday.

“Police believe the mother and daughter were forced into making such decision due to financial constraint and the only easy way out is through prostitution,” he said, adding that police were still carrying out investigation into the case.

“Police have also detained the woman’s 65-year-old husband, who surrendered himself to the city police headquarters the following day to assist in their investigation.

“The girl is currently under the care of the Welfare Department and the case is being investigated under Section 14 of the Anti-Trafficking in Person Act 2007,” said Jauteh.
