LIMBANG: A sum of RM203 million has been allocated by the state government to develop Limbang from 2010 up till this year.

The allocation benefited more than 40,000 people in the district.

Second Resource Planning and Environment Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan said the funds were for Rural Electricity Supply (BELB), Rural Water Supply (BALB), rural roads and other facilities.

He added that of the total, RM89 million was for the maintenance of roads and bridges, RM17 million (basic infrastructure), RM36 million (BELB), RM1.6 million (water tanks), RM25 million (BALB), RM9 million (drainage system), RM14 million (Housing Assistance Programme) and RM12 million for upgrading sports facilities.

“This shows the government is really concerned for the welfare of the people.

“And at the same time, with these facilities, the people will get an opportunity to engage in economic activities, thus helping them to improve their lives,” he said when launching the BELB project at Rumah Juing Rantau Kura Ulu Limbang on Saturday.

Present were Limbang Resident’s representative Abdul Malek Hashim, Limbang district officer Ngau Anyi, Citra Alti Sdn Bhd head of operations Mohamad Duri and Rumah Juing Rantau Kura Ulu Limbang headman Juing Lagi.

With the pace of development, Awang Tengah said he was confident that Limbang would be become an ecotourism destination with home stays that would bring good economic benefits to the people.

He also said even though all the development projects involved large amounts of money, the government would not stop in its efforts to uplift the people’s standard of living.

“It’s not easy to bring convenience to everyone, hence there are some areas that cannot enjoy such benefits from the government,” he said in reference to some remote areas which were hard to reach.

He also urged community leaders and villagers to work together and give full cooperation to contractors doing the BELB project in their areas.

On the Rumah Jung BELB project, Awang Tengah said it cost RM5.7 million and was expected to be completed middle of next year.
