ASAJAYA: More than 10 villages in Asajaya can be extended under the Village Extension Scheme to overcome the problem of crowding.

Asajaya assemblyman Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said yesterday this was an ongoing project as there were many overcrowded houses in the villages that include Kampung Sebandi Ulu, Sebandi Matang and Tambirat.

“In many instances, two or three families are living in one house,” the Assistant Housing Minister told reporters after handing
over land titles and compensation to 180 villagers from Kampung Sambir.

Explaining the concept, Abdul Karim said the land surrounding the villages would be given lots and compensation paid.

On yesterday’s event, the Assistant Youth Development Minister said the titles were for the traditional village which had yet to get titles.

“Giving land titles to traditional villages through the Land and Survey Department is an ongoing process whether election or not,” he said.

Abdul Karim urged recipients to take proper care of their land titles as they were priceless assets.

He said the land titles must be safely kept for the younger generation to inherit ,and not be sold as their prices would increase with development in the area.

He noted that the price of land in the area was RM200 to RM300 per acre in the 70s, but could reach RM60,000 per acre.

“Our land is our treasured asset and as Bumiputeras, we must keep and protect our land (titles) because they are our main asset and wealth,” he said.

Abdul Karim said he was made to understand that many lands in the area were owned by people outside Asajaya as the owners had sold them.

Also present was Samarahan Superintendant of Land and Survey, Rozlan Putit.
