MIRI: In line with the 1Malaysia concept and to foster better understanding, goodwill and unity within a multi-racial society, the Sikh community here, in collaboration with Miri City Council (MCC), will organise an open house for the Deepavali celebration.

The open house will commence from 11am to 2pm on Nov 10 at the Brighton Road Sikh Temple.

According to organising chairman Cr Narmal Singh, it is part of the city council’s agenda under the community development programme.

As part of the community development programme, the organiser will be holding a tour around the temple, including a briefing on Sikh religion and history of the temple.

Through the briefing it hopes that the community will be able to understand more about the Sikh religion, culture, tradition and heritage. Visitors will be served vegetarian food, sweets and masala tea.

Although they are a small community, Narmal said they want to contribute and play a part in the development and progress of the city and the state in general.
