KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) will not demand more seats for the party in the 13th general election and will only do so if the candidate is deemed winnable in that area.

Its president, Tan Sri Joseph Kurup, said the party would defend its existing seats for a start, including his own seat P.182 Pensiangan and N37 Sook represented by Datuk Ellron Angin, but the identity of the candidates would be revealed at a later date.

Kurup said the party did ask for more seats but the criteria was very stringent.

“The keyword is that are you a winnable candidate in that area.

“If we think we are winnable, then we will try to ask,” he said in an interview after witnessing the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Rakyat Berjaya Sdn Bhd and Forest Research Institute Malaysia here yesterday.

At the end of the day, Kurup said the decision would be made by the top leadership, and the party did not want to make a hassle out of this.

“What we need is to win all seats contested by Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates.”

As said by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, Kurup said everybody’s support was needed in the election, especially among BN component parties.

“We need every vote; we must win every constituency we are contesting.”
