BINTULU: Ribuan Pertama Sdn Bhd (Ribuan Pertama) held its MAN customer day cum test drive of a newly launched MAN TGS truck model (TGS33.430) at the Old Bintulu Airport site here yesterday.

The company was appointed as the sole distributor for MAN trucks and buses for Sarawak area in 2006 and it has since witnessed the growing popularity of continental trucks locally.

The test drive is aimed at offering an opportunity to potential customers to feel the exceptional power of the TGS truck which was released in the Malaysian market at the end of 2011.

The new TGS has an unprecedented power-to-weight ratio, enabling greater payload productivity and fuel efficiency.

The test drive model TGS33.430 (6X4) has a Euro III rated D20 in-line six-cylinder common-rail engine that delivers 316 KW (430hp) of power and 2,100NM of torque between 1,000 and 1,400rpm.

It comes with two drive axles with a gross vehicle mass of 33 tonnes. Its high-body design allows for greater ground clearance between the planetary axels.

Shifting comfort is provided by the 12-speed MAN TipMatic automatic transmission. For off-road vehicles, there is the MAN TipMatic with off-road shift solution, which provides maximum traction and fast turnaround times.

The Man TGS sports a completely redesigned cab interior with high-grade materials, easy-to-reach controls and instruments, clearly arranged to always be within the driver’s field of vision. The new cab is 2.24 metres wide.

The 400mm longer L-cab has bunk while the LX-cab can accommodate two wider bunks.

Active safety features include an electronic stability programme (ESP), lane guard system (LGS) and adaptive cruise control (ACC).

Aerodynamic fine-tuning has improved the drag co-efficient, effectively reducing fuel consumption while a side-window and mirror redesign limits soiling by mud for better vision and greater safety in off-road applications.

About 100 logistics and transportation companies were invited to the test drive event. Also on display at the event was a MAN CLA tipper truck (model: CLA 26.280, 6X4). The show vehicle attracted considerable interest from potential customers.

Gifts were given out to the participants and light refreshment served. Also present were Ribuan Pertama manager Ling Leong King, Federation of Sarawak Lorry Association president Robert Chiew, Ribuan Pertama marketing executive Ling Lee Kiong and its sales supervisor Yong Bee Kiek.
