KOTA BAHARU: Police personnel have been urged to be cautious when dealing with criminals as they are irresponsible, violent and have disrespect for the police.

Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar urged police personnel to work in groups in operations against criminals so that they could be arrested  quickly.

“This is important for cases where criminals shoot at police. It is a challenge to police and we are always working to improve,” he told reporters after visiting the two police officers shot by criminals at Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital here yesterday.

L/Cpl Mohd Samsul Anuar Mohd Adnan, 27, of Paloh police station, Gua Musang and Cpl Mat Raduan Mat Hassan, 50, of Machang police headquarters were hurt in the incident recently.

Ismail said to avoid such incidents, the police would review training at  training centres to allow police officers to act accordingly in particular situations. He was proud of the two police officers who put their lives on the line to protect the interests of society.

On the controversial statement by PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar, Ismail said the investigation is being conducted by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais).

Nurul Izzah who is also the MP for Lembah Pantai was reported by a pro-opposition news portal as saying that religious freedom should apply to all, including the Malays. — Bernama
