RISING: The flood water is seen to have increased at Marudi town here.

MARUDI: Flood waters in Marudi town and the nearby Malay villages rose a foot yesterday morning.

Although there has been no rain for the past two days, the water rose due to water overflowing from the upper reaches of the Baram coupled with the King Tide yesterday and the day before.

The areas affected by the flood waters are the road leading to the Esso and Shell petrol stations, the area around the new Alisan Hotel and Kakelmuke Building here.

Most of the shops here are likely to be closed today.

The only exception is Lee Hong Supermarket here.

Meanwhile, the divisional Welfare Department has distributed relief assistance such as rice, noodles, sugar and other necessities to Kampung Narum, Kampung Dagang and Kampung Ridan.

The department has also distributed relief assistance to flood victims at TutohApoh regions such as Rumah Lajang and Rumah Rok at Long Linei, Kuala Tutoh, Long Ikang, Long Banyok and longhouses at low lying areas in Central Baram.
