KUCHING: The state government aims to have zero hardcore poor in the state when the country hits high income status by 2020.

It plans to achieve this target by using the ‘1Azam’ programme, which comes under the e-Kasih system.

Kuching Resident Abdul Rahman Sebli Sanusi, however, said the success of this programme hinged quite a lot on the understanding of the initiative by the community leaders involved.

He said ever since e-Kasih was introduced, a total of 898 people had been matched with ‘Azam Satu Kerja’, ‘Azam Tani’ and ‘Azam Niaga’ under various ministries in the state.

“Community leaders help us to investigate and verify those who are eligible to be included in the e-Kasih list, and after that, we will bring the list to the Prime Minister’s Department for allocation to implement the ‘1Azam’ programme,” he said at the new e-Kasih registration verification seminar yesterday.

Those who had been matched but rejected would usually be offered other ‘Azam’ programmes which matched.

He reminded community leaders to perform their responsibility calmly and professionally to help those in need.

He said that as the “eyes and ears” of the government, they should not let irresponsible parties twist it to throw mud at the government.

Abdul Rahman also suggested that each village set up a database system to ease his office in reaching out to the poor.

“Form bureaus in each village and update records so that more development can be achieved.”

One hundred and eleven community leaders attended the seminar. They were reminded to hold meetings once every three months and to send the report to the Resident’s Office and to renominate Village Security and Development Committee when their term expired.

Kuching district officer Mahri Sarpawi, who was also present, said a key performance index for evaluation would be introduced next year for all community leaders.

Among those present was Temenggung Helmi Mohd Gol.
