KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian economy has yet to feel the impact of Hurricane Sandy, which caused massive damages in the US, says Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister, Datuk Mukhriz Tun Dr Mahathir.

He said his ministry has yet to receive any report on the impact of Hurricane Sandy on the Malaysian economy.

However, he said, Malaysia will be monitoring the situation closely as there may be some effects on exports.

“We are still in the process of gathering the information from the companies we know that have trading with the Eastern Coast of US,” he told Bernama in an interview.

He said during the tsunami which hit Japan on 2011 and the Fukushima nuclear disaster, they did have some impact on Asean.

“After the 2011 experience, we need to monitor and study the situation in US, to make sure we are ready for any scenario,” he said.
