SIBU: The group of seven Sarawak United People’s Party elected representatives aligned to Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh yesterday demanded the party’s disciplinary committee to act against members who called on the party to quit the state Barisan Nasional recently.

Making the call in a press statement yesterday, the group also took to task the party’s disciplinary committee for dragging its feet in investigating complaints made against Wong that he had acted against the interest of the party.

“Instead, the disciplinary committee should act more urgently against those who had decided in the Central Committee meeting on Sept 23 to leave BN. This is needed to calm the situation in the party and among the people they represent,” they said through the statement.

The Group of Seven from Wong’s camp is made up of also Lanang MP Datuk Tiong Tiong Thai King, Senadin assemblyman Datuk Lee Kim Shin, Simanggng assemblyman Datuk Francis Hardin, Bengoh assemblyman Dr Jerip Susil, Engkilili assemblyman Johnical Rayong and Ranum Mina Opar Assemblyman.

The statement also alleged that Chin’s faction had on Sept 23 met not only to move the motion for SUPP to pull out of the state’s ruling coalition, “but, a majority of those present had raised their hands to decide on leaving Barisan Nasional”.

The faction regarded this as a serious and urgent matter, saying these were members who had betrayed the trust in the state’s Barisan Nasional.

“Their decision will put BN in a difficult position. They are going against the will of the people whom they represent, and in their decision, they will deprive the people whom they represent of their rights in political mainstream.”

The group said such a deed would mean the party could not represent the people in the government and they would lose the confidence of the people.

“Before the situation worsens, action must be taken against these party members instead.”

They said the disciplinary committee had the right to decide independently on this, and their decision should not be swayed and influenced.
